Feb 18th Soul Calibur 3 Tulsa Tournament
February 18th, 2006
Tulsa, OK - Funhouse - mapquest - yahoo
[ Yahoo link also good for finding Hotels; 'Smart View' on the side, then travel ]
8pm signup, 9pm tourny
SC3 tourny location fee - 5$ entry fee [ However you then get 5$ worth of free tokens for playing other games or towards food]
tentative format - Round Robin - (see old info for more on RR format)
We'd like to go with the RR format to allow for tournament participants to recieve more training / games against opponents. However - if we recieve more than 30 tournament entries - this tournament will be held as a normal double elimination tournament. Why? Pure time and hardware constraints. However - if we have anyone that brings more TVs / PS2s / Copies of SC3 - that might change the mix / concerns. So - if you have a setup - a tv, ps2 and sc3 disk you can bring, please feel free to, and if we use your setup, we'll be able to waive the 5$ entry fee, per FH management. EDIT - We actually are looking at having Game Crazy sponsoring this tournament, so we might have all the hardware / setups we need! Info has been given out, talks had, so show up and we'll see!
Tourny fee and prize - no fee, only the 5$ location cost. Prizes will be token notes or SC related prizes - to be determined that day. Also, ranking / seeding for any later tournament will be a factor.
This tourny and all Tulsa tournaments and Regionals will be held according to Nationals rules and regulations. This is because all tournaments leading up to Regionals, and even Regionals it's self is in preparation for Nationals - click here for rules .
NOTE - Rules are subject to change - we will run each tournament by the current set of rules. So - keep an eye on the thread for new bannings and any adjustments. Overall rules / rounds / and so forth should stay the same, glitches and possibly some bonus characters are the ones to watch out for real banning / changes.

For now - sign up for a email list of interested people by contacting me - simply put 'interested in round robin' or such in the message box to let me know what your interested in, and I'll get back to you with more info as it becomes available. No - I won't sell you to spam lol.

Adding logic to a Soul Calibur tournament -
So one reason to have a tournament in Tulsa - was that if we are to become a regional location for Nationals [which yes, I'm going to go ahead and pull for, and I appreciate everyone's help getting the word out - there will be dl'able flyers soon and such.] - a tournament offers practice / the opportunity to see what "tourny nerves" are all about, how strong your competition is, so on so forth. Also - it gives us as a region the ability to strength ourselves up - all of us...
...because Texas WILL becoming after our 2 spots - I can just about guarantee.
So - with the Regionals needing to happen / to be scheduled sometime between late feb and early April, I figure we can have at least 2 tournaments here....
The tournament on January the 7th at Funhouse, flyer and post with the specifics to come shortly. [already up, see front page.]
[ there is a tourny in OKC the 14th as well, but yea, that's if you can drive / get a ride I guess ]
AND - the new idea is to use the Jan 7th tourny as ranking information to have a round robin tournament - sometime between the 7th, and regionals.
Why?
Well alot of it is spelled out here - in a discussion to switch the large E series of tournament/event held in Iowa over to that format - http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87527
But the gist? People new to the scene or concerned about not getting their money's worth / experience? Get somewhere between 4 to 9 matches before 'knocked out' or eliminated from the tournament - just depending on their pool size. A RR you play everyone in a certain pool - so if your pool is 10 people large, you get at least 9 games - and a strong knowledge of where you stand against the competition. Also - this gives more bang for the buck, but once again, strengthens opponents by having more time in the game.
[edit - once again, Round Robin format for the Feb 18th tournament is dependant on total systems / setups available vs how many people we have. If we get over 30 signups, it may become a normal tournament.]
This vastly differs from the standard double elim. format of the average tourny, where if you lose once, your in losers bracket, lose again, your out.
So - unless someone has a better idea, the results from the tournament on the 7th will be used to determine some seeding info [info used to 'seed' or place people properly in the pools; separate the skill levels so it's more even in each pool] and then applied to a tournament - maybe we'll have early or mid February.
Concerned about getting the word to people that don't have LJ or wouldn't remember a long url to get them here? [or because it's a community and this post will be at the bottom of the page in a week lol]
url: www.okgamers.com - I've set up a 'soul calibur trail' of links off that first page - just have people go there, and all this info will be there waiting. [url changed to okgamers.com]
