About OKgamers.com - a site serving Oklahoma Gamers

What is OKgamers.com?

A site for gamers in the Oklahoma area to find events, tournaments, and other gamers of all ages and all types of games around the Oklahoma area. One place to go to and find out what's going on for gamers!

The gist of this site? It's all about the forums. That's where you can go and find out about an event in Oklahoma going on for gamers. The forums are also where you can go, register an account, and interact with other gamers in Oklahoma.

History of OKgamers.com

It started like most things start - with a need.

In 2005 a game went from being released and played in the arcade, to a console game. Saif, founder of the OKgamers site realized to find competition for his favorite game - he'd have to get the attention of gamers hiding in their houses. So he went out, posted flyers, and threw some tournaments. However - all the info wouldn't fit on a single flyer - he needed a website to post the info on. After friends talked him into a more 'overall url' name - Saif and his friends realized the url OKgamers.com was way more than a simple one game site - it could be a resource for gamers across the state, and for all gamers.

OKgamers.com opened up it's forums in March of 2006 and started looking for it's core purpose. Slowly we realized gamers didn't just hold controllers, and steered towards tabletop and larping gamers as well. Working with whoever cared, we set down, ironed out what we thought mattered, and moved on it.

Late 2006 we started throwing monthly tournaments to get the word out about the site. Soon, we ran into businesses that needed help consulting, organizing, and running tournaments and event for gamers. We opened up volunteer staff positions, and worked with any business that we could, to help out with having more events in the community, and of course, helping get the word out about OKgamers.com - so it would be more and more useful.

2007 was quite a year. We grew in leaps and bounds, working with not just businesses, but conventions, and getting online, radio, and TV coverage to our site. We hosted more tournaments than we care to talk about, and several of us will never like Guitar Hero ever ever again.

2008 started with a big surprise. We were made aware of , and then approved by 1800volunteer.org for working with local colleges to help students get their community service hours. This was great, as we have at least 5 different conventions and large scale events we have helped with and will be helping with in 08 alone.

OKgamers.com - the future?

Well. We hope to simply expand to more gamers in Oklahoma. If we were setting goals, one would definitely be increased 'non-electronic' gamers - as we'd like to be as well rounded and as much of a resource for all gamers as we can be.

Beyond that - we hope to continue focusing on being a resource, a reason to remember gamers can make a difference in their area, and having good times.

Okay - Why do you care?

We do this in hopes we can improve the state. It's RIDICULOUS to not know about an event because you didn't find a flyer, hear from a friend, etc. OKgamers.com is here to solve that by being a central online location to post about your events and other gamer related info for Oklahoma! Why should you care? The more gamers work together, the more we'll know what's going on - which means more fun things to do. The more businesses we help out, the better chance they'll have more events, and we'll have - more things to do. And finally, if you live in Oklahoma - and you play games? Well. Why wouldn't you want to have a site like this?

And please remember to help spread the word - the more gamers know us, the more events get posted, and the more useful the site becomes!

Enough talk? Make sure you go to what the site is all about - the Forums.
