First - What is OKgamers.com?
OKgamers.com is effectively just a few pages, and a group of forums for players and people in Oklahoma to interact, post and find gamer related events, and use as a resource.
For more on why we do this, visit About OKgamer.
I've used plenty of forums - what do I need to know?
Well, to the right is a quick link to register on the forums. Then skip to our read-me that covers our one request, formatting the thread title or subject properly. After that your good to go - anything posted in the Tournaments & Events forum also appears on the front page, and sub-pages.
Not familiar with forums? Please continue!
Okay, so how do I post a tournament or event?
First you must visit the forums, and sign up for a forum account. This process only takes a minute or 2, and relies on you having a valid email address.
PLEASE - use a email address you actually check, as we also send out newsletters and info from time to time, and that way we'll actually get ahold of you :)
When you are signing up your "Username" is the name you'll be known as, and post under on the forum. If your a business, consider using the name of the business as the forum user name.
Once you have put in the info requested, and click the register button, you'll recieve an email with an activation link a few minutes afterwards, usually. After that, you'll be able to post on the forums.
- Click here to Register for a forum account!
I have a forum account - now what?
After you have a forum account, you can post anywhere in the forums a normal user can. This means when you are viewing a forum, and see a discussion in a thread, you can click 'reply' and post. Also - you can start new threads in any forum by clicking the 'start topic' link, which is how you can post about that tournament or event your letting us know about!
Where do I post my new thread?
If it's a tournament or event, you need to post about it in the TOURNAMENTS AND EVENTS forum. This forum is dedicated to being the place for gamers to go and be in the know about what's going on in Oklahoma - so post there, so we know what's going on!
So click new topic, properly format your title, put the vital information in the post, and hit submit, and your done!
We do of course suggest proof reading your thread, to make sure have included everything a gamer would need, and didn't tragically misspell anything :)
How do I properly format my title? What should I post?
Well, we've actually put together a very helpful "Read Me" thread in the tournaments and events forum. Click here to read the "read me" thread.
The gist?
Title your thread in our easy to understand format, and give the gamers what they need to be interested and make it to your event.
Your thread title needs to be formatted:
City - Event - Date
If you have a reoccuring event, then you can say:
City - Weekly/Monthly/Etc Event
If you do not have a location, date, or event set, please do not post in the tournaments and events forum. You can post your idea or start hyping your event your putting together in the hype forum, where it belongs.
What should you say? What they need to know to get interested, and get there. Date, time, location, event and details of games, prizes, and any additional info you have, like extra rules, location details, etc. The Read Me linked above gets into really great details on that!
And that's about it. Feel free to look through the current threads, the tournament archives and the readme to get idea's on content and how to format your information in your thread. We suggest you put as much detail as possible, that way gamers don't have any questions, it's straight forwards and easy for them to read up, get interested, and see you on your event day!
How do I get my event on the front page?
Any event on the front page is:
A - posted in the Tournaments and Events forum.
B - A new thread, or having a comment posted on that thread in the last few weeks.
So how do you stay on the front page? Anytime someone posts a question or lets you know they are showing up - you go to the top of the forum and the front page!
What if your event is weekly / doesn't have alot of feedback? We suggest keeping your first post on your thread up to date. This means going in and editing it from time to time - however, when you edit no alarms go off, nor does the thread move up in the forums to show it's got new content. So? Post on your own thread that "You have updated the first post!" This keeps you thinking about details you might need to add, or gives you a chance to keep in touch with gamers - as they see you are updating your thread for them!
"So I have a monthy event, and
nothing changes."
Okay - take the next 3 dates, and post them in there. This gives the gamers a quick glance at when your next events are, so bonus! BUT - it also gives you a chance to go in and edit it every month, and post that you've edited it, pushing your thread to the top!
