Getting known in the community
« on: April 25, 2011, 11:04:04 PM »
A question I am asking to everybody that is viewing this page. What does it take to get known in the community. I have been told that you just need to stick around forums. But it seems as if there is more to it... can anybody help?

getting known how?

Getting known as a player is simply by winning, or coming close numerous times.

Beating someone well known already is the fastest and probably hardest.

Forums aren't really going to work unless you also play.

You don't have to beat the best to be known. You can just be known as a quality person who is also a player. We have alot of Oklahoma players who don't necessarily win all the tournaments, but people know them when they go out of state, and when they see them on forums.

The number one way to "get known" is to participate in as many events as possible, tournaments, get togethers, etc. And that doesn't just mean in our area, that means going out of state too, and of course out of state tourney experience brings new blood and technique in-state.

You can also be known if you help with TOing or organizing events. Sticking around in the forums is a good start, but its really about in-person activities! Use the forums to further bolster your reputation as a cool dude who is genuinely interested in your game.

Go to tournaments and support OKgamers, even if it's not your type of game!
Do you play Reach?
There's a tournament saturday you should check out in Norman, Oklahoma. :P
Many teams are looking for free agents to,
Like my team needs two more..  ._.

Next door to the reach tournament in norman, is Smash Bros, Arcana Heart, and maybe Blazblue and MK9.
Showing up to the Norman Oklahoma Monthlies every month is the number one way to network with other oklahoma players and make yourself known among the larger gaming community. Were going to get livestreams going soon and start posting results online, that means everytime you make an appearance or enter a tournament your presence is out there!
