Norman Gamers looking to host rare and interesting tourneys.
« on: April 10, 2010, 04:53:42 PM »
Hey Oklahoma. I periodically host tournaments with the Japanese Animation Society at Oklahoma University. Surprisingly interest in BlazBlue and Tatsunoko vs Capcom has been pretty low, these games are of course very technical and very japanese fighting games.
We have had a number of tournaments in the past few months. We want to expand our horizons, we will continue to do modern fighting game, and perhaps integrate shooting game tournaments, but I would like to gauge interest in other games, rarer games that perhaps had a following at one time, and perhaps a cult following still exists.

Things like:
Rival Schools
Soul Caliber
Perfect Dark/Goldeneye
Dead or Alive
Mario Kart
Others? What game would you like to see included in a tournament, perhaps one that contained multiple mini tournaments with games such as this, centered around one large "grand" tournament like Smash Brothers or BlazBlue.

I think gamers can get along from all places, after all most of us spend the time during football games playing video games...you know, REAL games. Cowboys are welcome!

Lets call TEKKEN rare and put it on the list.

Are SC and T6 very popular?
How many people would travel to Norman to participate in a tourney that featured both T6/SC4, what are the preferred consoles? Or do most people use sticks?

While we're on the topic of 3D fighters, are there any others that people like? I would be happy to throw Rival Schools 2 in there but I don't know if anyone would want to play it.

SC has a small, but dedicated community.  Not sure how many would travel, or how many you'd shake loose from Norman with the proper promotion.  Tulsa based SC tournaments get 10 to 15.

Tekken is another story however, as it's more popular currently, and has a stronger community.  It can be hit and miss however - so you might get 10, or you might get 30.

And of course, if you throw in large pots, or sponsors, the numbers can easily double from travelers, etc.
