D&D Game Day - March 20th - Tulsa

Worldwide D&D Game Day: Player's Handbook 3

In the frontier village of Beorunna's Well, all is not well. Villagers have disappeared without a trace, and the locals fear to walk alone at night. Now, the villagers hear distant cries of terror at night, echoing from an abandoned fortress outside the village. A group of brave heroes must step forward to explore the Lonely Tower and end the threat to Beorunna's Well. This Dungeons & Dragons adventure was created for Worldwide D&D Game Day, and is designed for 4-6 6th-level characters, which are provided with the adventure.

Well there is the official line from WotC. They will be releasing the PH3, probably about a week in advance of the game day on March 20th. The game day is designed to promote the PH3 so hopefully there will be a couple of new classes and races to try out.

For anyone not familiar with these events I'll give you a short run down. Everyone splits into groups of 4-6 players and we play a short module (3-4 encounters) that lasts about 4 hours. In the past we have always used sucky pre-generated characters that they send with the adventure, and I'm sure they'll be just as sucky this time around. Each player gets to keep the miniature of the character he plays. In addition to those paltry rewards, you get to reap the true rewards of the Game Day event. That being, hanging out and socializing with people who have the same interests, RPG's.

-------------------------------------EDIT---------------------------------------------------------
I received the game day kit today. They've changed the setup a bit. You used to get a free miniature of the character you were playing. Now though, they are using card-stock tokens. So no mini. Sorry.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, anyone who plays 4e D&D is invited to join us on March 20th at Top Deck Games. Those who don't play 4e D&D are also invited to join us at Top Deck Games. After all, most gamers play a variety of games so it's a good chance to network and try to find other people for the game you really want to play.

I plan on running two sessions if there is enough interest. The first from 1:00 -5:00 and the second from 6:00-10:00. There will also be at least one other, if not two DM's also running games but I don't know their times yet. I would show up about a 1/2 hour before the start time so that things can get organized and everyone has time to look over their character before the game starts. The only thing you need to bring is yourself, and your dice (and I have extra's of those, so it's not a requirement either).

If anyone is interested, please go ahead and post, and what time slot, so that I can gauge the number of potential players (and for what time) for this event.

I really, really want to be there. Are beginners welcomed as well? I just purchased the starter kit and core rule book. I'm not sure if I will be able to read all the way through by then, would that be problematic or will someone be there to guide me? I am interested in attending the 1-5 session.

One other question: is there a charge and if so how much? Okay, another question: will the dice that came with the starter kit be sufficient? Sorry, total newb here...

Yes, beginners are welcome!

No, you don't need to have any previous experience. The Game Day is about having fun and hanging out, as far as I'm concerned anyway. If you have the books and the time, read through chapter 9 of the players handbook. Don't worry about memorizing it or anything, just try and get a feel for combat. If you have question during the game that's fine, go ahead and ask. Remember, all of the old timers started off at 1st level with no experience too. Most people are fine with helping you figure things out, just let them know before the game starts that you've never played before and might need some guidance.

The dice with the starter kit are fine. I used the dice that came with my starter set back in 1980 until the edges wore off. I have an extra set or two that I'll bring with me too.

There is no charge for this event, it is a promotional event sponsored by Wizards and hosted by Top Deck.

The nearest intersection is 31st and Sheridan. Top Deck is located on the Southwest corner of the intersection in a strip mall named Mall 31, next to the cell phone store. You can look up 31st and Sheridan (Tulsa Oklahoma) on Google maps, or you call the store (918-665-7529) and ask for directions if you need to.

Despite the snow, we still had enough people show up to run several sessions. We had a good time and were able to try out the new character classes and races.

For anyone who was not able to make it because of the snow. We will be having another game day this summer, and I'll post the day and time when it gets closer, hopefully the weather will be better then.

Top Deck is also running the D&D Encounters. It is an WotC adventure series for 1st level characters, it will be run one encounter per week for three months. It will be running every Thursday night (6:00 start time) and is open to anyone who wants to play. I'll try and get more information and post it.
