There is an article which states the following.

Quote
Wichita's first big tournament for the new year now has a date!

Following last year's popular team tournament, War Games is continuing the trend with a new two man team tournament for Street Fighter IV and a three man team tournament for Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion.

There are still singles tournaments for the team-based games and a variety of other games, including Street Fighter II: HD Remix, BlazBlue, and Melty Blood: Actress Again.  Participants are welcome to bring their own games and set up stations as well.

I spoke to the event coordinator, Petro Irving, about the tournament and what his plans are.  He told me in a phone interview that he organizes these tournaments every four months, "hoping that they catch on and put Kansas as a fighting force in the midwest."  He also spoke of raising awareness for gamers and non-gamers alike, providing "something even the casual gamer would like."

This is his fourth tournament in two years.

Petro Irving also mentioned that he hopes someday to host the tournament at the Intrust Bank Arena in downtown Wichita.  He's heard of the large tournaments in the western part of the U.S. and wants to draw in crowds as large as the ones at Evolution and in California.  His goal is 2,000 attendees.

"Last time we had people from Kansas City and Oklahoma.  It was cool that a girl came all the way down from Manhattan, too.  This time I want to see people from Missouri and hopefully Nebraska comes too."

So, guessing from what this says, he holds these tournaments periodically.

I believe the last one was in November.

And from what I've gathered, they're pretty big since they attract everyone from the surrounding area.

I don't know whether or not he'll be able to reach his goal of getting crowds as large as EVO, but if he manages to make Wichita for the Midwest what Los Angeles is for the West Coast and what New York City is for the East Coast, then he will be the greatest man in the world in my books.

Personally, I'd love it if Tulsa managed to generate a big enough SFIV scene, but it looks like we're destined to play second banana to Smash Bros.

Not that there's anything wrong with Smash Bros, but still...

Yo i wasn't paying attention to this thread but I may go to this lol, for Blazblue and Tekken.  MAYBE SF4 but i'm probably not lol.  But do we know if he'd need like someone else to bring a PS3 for said game(s)?

Sadly, despite my attempt to hype this tournament here, I've decided it would be in my best interests in regards to my occupational and financial needs that I will not be attending this tournament.

Doing so would require me to skip two scheduled days, which is a big no-no at this point of time.

I cannot join the folks in Arkansas either, since the event is within three weeks, and it would be impossible to request days off now.

Dem bills, man. Dem bills.
