Blazblue = Dumb. Go TEKKEN!

BE NICE!  I know you lose good tekken competition to BB with AF, but we lost him as a SC player first, so  yea :0P

Also, after what happened, not only will I make it a habit to bring hardware to every tournament from now on, but I'm also going to show up as early as I possibly can in order to claim the best TVs. These 18-inch piece-of-crap LCD TV's aren't cutting it no more, and I will accept nothing less than the absolute best.

Now, get something cooked up for April, I'll be waiting.

Hardware?  Let me go with a Gandhi quote:
We must be the change we wish to see in the world.

Every venue is different, but yes, it would be nice if you did have a habit of bringing hardware, it appears to be a issue with the SF community lol...

Which brings up a VERY GOOD POINT - the last THREE tournaments have had the SAME pattern for SF4 - we show up, barely have enough hardware, and when we poll the attending gamers - the majority of the people who showed up are NEW - and JUST heard about it from their friends (despite this thread even saying "tell your friends about readin the thread", etc)

So what do we take from this:
SF players gossip :D
SF players do not like to tell their friends about hardware!  lol
SF player retention is less than 50% between tournaments?

While we can't force gamers to spread the details perfectly, we can encourage our local players to take the "hardware issue" seriously.  Because let's be frank - you want us to organize events - we need your help.  Period.  End of story - I don't have an SF setup.  My TO's - don't.  We go out on a limb and look STUPID when no hardware shows up.  I rather throw 30 SC4 tournaments with 8 people showing up than 1 20 man SF4 tournament that has no hardware...

Blazblue!!!

Blazblue = Dumb. Go TEKKEN!

You're both wrong.

GO SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV!

Oh who am I kidding, that's practically guaranteed.

Which is why personally, I find this statement kinda off - if it was up to me alone, I'm not sure SF anything would be guaranteed :)  Lucky for the SF community, it's not up to me alone lol.   Also, I wonder if SSF is why the community seems to have kinda gone into recession, maybe just waiting?

...but like I said, as the event coordinator I take all the heat for this no hardware issue.  I've passed on my feelings to you guys - you know that you need to have hardware at events for us to be able to support your communities.  In order to help you have more events to have fun with and grow your game's community, to get better at the games you enjoy, and bring you non-local competition - you need to help out.  Period.  I know it's asking something of you, but the alternative is supporting other games, or cutting back on communities we focus on.

I think CrazyClown might have disappeared because of this?  I know when you are MAKING MONEY off OKgamers events - and then look at me or my TO's like we are speaking jibberish to be like "Well, if your winning the tournaments, it'd be nice to see you help out with hardware somehow" - and I don't see you again?  That's how I do my math :|

Or did Weng scare him off?  Dunno.

All I DO know is - the more secure and regular hardware is, the more at ease we can be organizing events and including your game to help your community.  Rant over -_-;;

I see your point, and I agree. In these past couple of tournaments, having no hardware has been a pain. But, being the forgive-and-forget person that I am, I said to myself, "surely this wont happen again."

And it does.

And it's in times such as these that, when no one else is willing to stand up to do something about it, I will take up the call, since no one else is in a hurry to do so. It was a pain in the past because I used to live 50 miles away from Tulsa, but now that I live on 71st and Lewis and about 4 miles from both the Funhouse and Alien Games, bringing hardware wont be that big of a hassle.

If it was up to me alone, I'm not sure SF anything would be guaranteed Smiley  Lucky for the SF community, it's not up to me alone lol.   Also, I wonder if SSF is why the community seems to have kinda gone into recession, maybe just waiting?

I wouldn't say it has gone into recession, but people are slowing down since they realize that, in just a little over a month, they'll never be playing Street Fighter IV again. They're going to have to adapt to new characters, moves, and stats, but the game is going to stay the same. If anything, SSFIV will garner more people this time around. Frankly, I'm excited for whatever is going to happen this summer with SSFIV across this state.

As for spreading the word, working in radio has taught me that advertising is the difference from getting nothing and getting something. With that in mind, I never really saw any flyers advertising this tournament anywhere outside the actual venue. Either that, or my eyes were preocupied with something else over at the used game stores and comic shops that I venture to.

If you're leaving it up to the community to spread the word, then I'll make an additional effort in printing some flyers out over at the Fed Ex shop and posting them at the shops previously mentioned. I would like to see new faces, but before that, I have some revenge to dish out.

Street Fighter IV revitalized the tournament scene here in America and it is the most popular 2D-ish fighting game out there. Being a dedicated fan, I want this fact to be reflected onto Tulsa more properly.

It may sound a little self-serving to cater to one community over the other colorful ones like BlazBlue, Tekken, or even Soul Calibur, but at this point, I'm willing to dedicate some of my free time in facilitating a more vibrant and active SF scene as opposed to sitting around and letting someone else do it for me. Besides, if the rest of the SF scene isn't going to bother to bring hardware, then I can't trust them to help make the scene bigger.

If everything goes correctly, these next couple of months should prove to be interesting.

Also, Saif, I would like to extend an open invitation for you to join us. Why don't you give SFIV a try? Play around with some of the characters, see what works for you and what doesn't. I think you'd be good enough to hang with the rest of us. What do you say?

Yo. The Pimpest is here. Two things...

1.Meta Knight is LOL. Ironically, I faced none. Got wrecked regardless. Whatevs.

2.Saif, I can promise you one thing as far as Super SFIV is concerned:

The OG of OK Smash is dusting his 2D Fighting skills off and WILL BRING DAT HEAT to the SF community. I may be bringing a few friends with me, as well. Most importantly, I WILL BRING SET-UPS EVERY TIME I ENTER. Now, that may not be every tournament, but when I do show, I will have full gear IN TOW. GUARANTEED. PS3 of course.

Our "Street Crew" supporters kinda fell apart a while back, and with that, plus some miscommunication / TO's being too busy to get flyers from Alien Games - we semi-dropped the ball on advertising for this.

I'm turning in the paperwork for a big event May 8th.  Then there's TnT June 18-20th.  And then potentially an event in July, and NVGA Supercon 2010 in August.  That's what I am "currently attached to" as far as events - there are also for sure the OCCC and HxC events in OKC, and other things on the docket when it comes to community games in the next few months.

Anyway - there will be events to help us promote, so we'll hope you keep an eye on the forums.

Self serving?  Everyone but the TO's for OKgamers are "self serving" - and that's fine.  This site wouldn't have even gotten off the ground if we didn't find a CORE group of "Self serving" individuals that loved their games - and loved them enough to get out, help events, and get OKgamers helping businesses, their communities, etc.  It's totally fine - support your game, and we'll do our best to support the games we can, and the over all goal of OKgamers - promotion that it exists, and expanding it as the best resource OK gamers have for info, etc.

SF4 - I've played :)  Tied for 3rd at a Game Crazy tournament, played some, just didn't find it my cup of tea - if there were parrys - I'd be more down, ironically enough lol.  Just didn't fit me - maybe SSF will, but with SC4 starting up for the Supercon, I'm not sure I have anymore room between it and SSBB on occasion :)  Trust me, I keep an eye on the game.

Paperwork isn't FINALIZED for May 8th - but I'd suggest keeping your calendar open :D
