Dude...MLG is WAITING to come to Oklahoma.
One of the main problems that most traveling attractions (like music tours, video game tours, sports tours, etc) have when dealing with their scheduling is that it's hard to find a centralized populous who is interested in the actual event taking place. So you hit "main cities" in "centralized locations" in order to accomidate the most amount of people who're willing to pay for that event.
This is why things like the Super Bowl, the Olympics, The Rolling Stones and MLG pick their locations AHEAD of time...and they don't just say "Oh..well...we'll just play at the 'home town' so we get a good turnout."
They want masses of people to attend.
Oklahoma is ideal for things like this because we are in the center of the nation...but Oklahoma is not exactly known for our "liberal taste" or for supporting itself well.
In 20 years...I think that OKC will be on the same level (or greater than) as cities like Dallas, New Orleans, Kansas City, and even places like Phoenix or Salt Lake City. We are definately on the rise...and we have a whole market of untapped human resources. We have space to build, room to accomidate, and prices to allow.
Essentially...I think that this generation of Oklahoma is going to experience a rebirth of OKC/Tulsa in a way that many of us thought wasn't ever going to happen to this state. Our potential is pretty much limitless because of our land-locked location, and almost-always work-appropriate weather.
So before you guys start jynxing us with your "oh, we've never been able to do that before"...you need to realize what is going on around you. I know that most of our development is still in its primary stages...but we're not going to reinvent the wheel. When the rest of the world (America) realizes what kind of a set-up we have and how much room for growth we have...this state will explode into a buzzing nest of businesses and the money will start pouring into the state.
I'd say that if MLG doesn't do anything stupid with their business (like letting it go under for some reason) then we could very well start seeing the season opener here in OKC within 3-8 years.
Most of you don't really know how big of an impact selling out every single NBA game that comes through our town can have...but you will soon. Let the people downtown start spending their money on rennovations and birthing new businesses...and when you finally notice all of that...you won't think this is such a bad place to live.
I know it's been that way forever...but our generation is changing that, and you need to start moving with that same vision or be ready to start pinching yourself when Oklahoma shows you how we could REALLY be using this state. It's happening now, and the growth has started...give it a decade to start building some hype and more credit. You'll see soon enough.
