Tulsa / OKC / hello? - Soul Calibur players
« on: June 06, 2006, 01:11:37 PM »
So yea.  We exist, Soul Calibur 3 players.

Monday nights at Funhouse used to be a gathering point, I think however it's kinda trended over into being Thursday nights.

Anyway - you want to play some SC?  Funhouse has 2 AC versions of SC3 - yes they did eventually release it to Arcade, and it's improved.  Really top tier characters like Sophie and Cassandra got toned down, Amy got a rehaul, they got rid of almost all the bonus characters, stuff like that.

So yea, wanna play?  Show up to Funhouse.  Let us know on here when you'll be there, and we jus might even be able to meet you up there.  Like I said, Thursday nights, usually after / around 9pm or so - seems to be the pattern.  Give us a shout out, I'll try and get the word spread.

Also - personally - I'm supposidly getting ready for nationals in July lol - so - all the competition I can get, I appreciate.

Amy's great.  She's just limited like Raph, but her size and speed does help in area's.  Dunno, she's looking to be a strong second option.

lol - Console Amy?  Horrrrible.  But - I won a Minicon tournament with her lool.

Wow, so over 10 SC3 players showed up for the tournament yesterday....

...you'd think Tulsa had Soul Calibur players or somethin!!@#

Anyway - if you guys want to play console, let me know.  And if you vote for it again, I can guarantee another SC3 Tournament next week [unless something other than Halo and Smash get highly voted for - it's really just up to you guys.  However, if things go as they have been, we'll be able to have Halo, Smash, and SC3 Dec. 10th...]

Ashley 3.5 / Bunni is in town, so SC3 has been going down.  Maybe I'll show up to FH this Friday night?  Dunno, evidently I need to play Sean some more, he's been bragging from what I hear -_-

IF YOU WANT MORE SC3 - GO VOTE ELSE MARIO KART WILL WIN - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=106.0

Me and another smasher are willing to learn SC3 competitively, and maybe we'll hit up one of those Funhouse joints (for ssb64 as well). We just got done with the "OHSNAP2" tournament, and we're going to have local monthly tourneys in Norman starting Feb, but I feel like "catching up" on some alternative fighters in the mean time. Maybe I could pick up a few tricks from the Soul Calibur regulars.

Besides, along with a bunch of other fighters, I enjoy the SC series. It's just I usually don't have the time to practice more than one game......

Man - Vegafuse saying that is kinda exciting on levels, but assuming that falls through...

...Soul Calibur just DIED in Oklahoma.

WHICH SUCKS!@#  I love the game.  It's deep - as deep strategic wise as just about ANY fighting game out there.  It's a game that really has some awesome aspects to it.  Just - no one plays serious -_-  Or - when they do think they do, they meet myself or Mj / BrianHates - and find out they aren't so happy anymore to play it lol.

I just wish - SC would get a solid base, that wanted to play regularly.  Heck, I started game night at my house for Soul Calibur and Smash...  And Calibur got so little love in the end -_-  OI!

--

My perspective?  If anyone wants to learn the game - we've got a few people to play still lurking around, and I'm always more than willing to help anyone serious to learn.  Heck, I've had over 10 'students' over the years lol.  Or, if you want serious competition - I assure you, Tulsa has a few of the best players in the state, and even if there is rust to be knocked off us, I doubt you'll get more than a round or two on us :)  /cocky.

Supposedly there is a decent TU base of players, but since my 'connection', aka the people I KNEW that play, have gone off to WoW the pains, I don't know for sure / have any connection to get to know them and play heh.

I'm basically - just in hibernation.  I've got sc3.   I've got sticks, and a place to play in Tulsa.  If anyone's interested, take this as a open invite.

If your a arcade type - I applaud you lol, unless your a funhouse rat then blah lool - and I'd be more willing to make trips up to Funhouse / a AC to play as well.

It's "Saif" lol.

Hey saff I was reading this and my friend went to a big tourney in guadalupe and he did really good but he only plays ps2 console version and he does perfer to play sc2 than 3 but he is really good.

Guada what?  lol - I take issue with this - I want to see some documentation...

..ANYWAY - if there is ACTUALLY a tournament winning / self proclaiming pro SC player in Tulsa Oklahoma?  And they are actively playing ANY soul calibur?

I'd like to meet them.  And then play them.

Problem is this  - way before OKgamers, and before anything else I've ever tried to do - Soul Calibur has been my hobby and passion.  In 99 I picked it up at the arcade, and played with 30+ people weekly.  We got good.  I got better than good.

SC2 came out - Tulsa fielded 3 players to nationals, I was one.  JD and I played like 4+ hours a day, 4 to 6 days a week in preperation.

We got - really good.

And since then?  Any people in Tulsa fall into 3 catagories for me:

Useless - The retired - or ones that don't play.

Will Dissappear - The ones that think they are hot stuff, and when they play one of the "Funhouse" players, they never play us again.

Not stepping it up - Or, they know they aren't any good / have retired, and play some - but aren't any serious competition for me.

--

Would I love for that to change?  Yes.  I'd love for someone to step it up so I could have competition and someone to play consistently.  Just, I've given up a bit heh.  Your friend wants to play PS2 whatever?  I've got both, just have him bring a memory card, he's even welcome to come to my house to play.  In fact, we do a thursday night game night, would be a good thing then too perhaps.  Have him get ahold of me / post / etc pls.

Something to note - please review the last parts of my statements here - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=364.msg3503#new

Long story short?  If you sense any burnt out feelings when it comes to finding / going out and believing in competition for SC?  It's because I've been there.  Done that for a while.

SC1.  SC2.   I hunted.  Searched. Scowered.  Couldn't find anyone.

Sure - I found pople that said they played.  Or even took interest in the game for a bit.  No one that ever seems to stick around long term, like so many of the arcade players I knew back in the day and still.  Kinda feels hopeless when all the console players seem to be so easy to burn out.  Meh.
